Google Free Booking Links for Hotels in India: How Small Resorts Get the “Official Site” Link

Google shows your direct rate next to the OTAs in hotel search results, free of charge, if your booking engine is connected. What free booking links are, what you need to qualify, and how to check your setup.

Google free booking links for hotels in India guide cover, explaining how small resorts get the Official Site link in Google

Search for almost any Kerala resort by name on Google and you'll see a box of prices: Booking.com, Agoda, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo. Often the resort's own website isn't in that list at all. So a guest who wanted to book direct ends up on an OTA, and the resort pays commission on a booking it could have had for free.

Google fixed part of this in 2021 with free booking links. Any hotel can appear in that price list with its own direct rate, marked as the official site, without paying per click. Many small Indian properties still don't show up, usually because one piece of the setup is missing.

What free booking links are

When someone searches for a hotel or browses hotels on Google Search or Maps, Google shows a list of places to book and their prices. Free booking links are the unpaid entries in that list. Google doesn't charge for the listing or the click, and the booking happens on your own booking engine.

When your direct rate appears, it's usually labelled as the official site. Guests trust that, especially if your price matches or beats the OTAs.

What you need to qualify

How Google free booking links work: a verified Business Profile, a booking engine that is a Google connectivity partner, live rates and availability, and the Official Site link next to OTA prices
All four pieces have to be connected.
  1. 01A verified Google Business Profile for the property. If you haven't sorted that out yet, start with my Google Business Profile guide for Kerala resorts.
  2. 02A booking engine or channel manager that connects to Google. Google calls these connectivity partners. Many booking engines used by Indian hotels offer this, sometimes free and sometimes as a paid add-on.
  3. 03Live prices and availability. The partner sends your rates to Google automatically. If the prices are wrong or stale, Google can stop showing them.
  4. 04A booking page that opens with the dates and room the guest chose, not your homepage.

You can't send prices to Google yourself by typing them in. The connection always goes through the booking engine or a channel manager.

How to check if you're already listed

  1. 01Search your property's name on Google from a phone, not signed in to your business account.
  2. 02Choose dates in the hotel panel and look at the list of prices.
  3. 03If your website appears, you're live. Check that the price is right.
  4. 04If it doesn't, ask your booking engine provider: "Are you a Google Hotel connectivity partner, and is free booking links turned on for our property?"

Often the answer is "yes, but it's not switched on", and they can turn it on for you.

If your booking engine can't connect

Some small homestays use a WhatsApp number or a simple enquiry form instead of a booking engine. In that case you can't use free booking links yet. Your options:

  • Move to a booking engine that is a Google partner. For a homestay with a few rooms, this can pay for itself if it saves a handful of OTA commissions a year.
  • Use a channel manager that connects to Google as well as to the OTAs, so rates stay in sync everywhere.

Getting the most from the listing

  • Keep rate parity, or beat it with value. If an OTA shows a lower price than your own site, guests will click the OTA. Many resorts add a direct-booking perk instead of a lower rate, like breakfast, late checkout or a free airport pickup.
  • Make the booking page fast on mobile. Most of these clicks come from phones. A slow, clunky booking engine loses the guest to the OTA they just scrolled past.
  • Track direct bookings. Make sure GA4 sees the booking, even when it happens on the booking engine's domain. My guide on GA4 tracking for hotel booking engines covers cross-domain tracking.

Free links vs paid Hotel Ads

Comparison of Google free booking links and paid Google Hotel Ads: free links cost nothing but position is not guaranteed; Hotel Ads are paid sponsored placements with bid controls; both use the same rate connection
Get the free listing working before paying for Hotel Ads.

Google Hotel Ads uses the same rate connection but puts you in sponsored, more prominent spots, and you pay per click or per booking. Once your free link is working and your prices are competitive, Hotel Ads are worth testing, especially for your property name, where OTAs often bid against you.

For the search side of paid ads, see my Google Ads guide for resorts in Kerala.

Why this matters for Kerala properties

OTA commissions can take a big share of each booking. Every guest who books through your official site instead keeps that money with you, and gives you their phone number and email for next time. Free booking links are one of the few direct-booking tools that cost nothing per click.

Frequently asked questions

Are Google free booking links really free?

Yes. Google doesn't charge for the listing or the clicks. Your booking engine or channel manager might charge for the connection to Google, so ask them.

Why doesn't my hotel website show in Google's price list?

Usually because your booking engine isn't connected to Google, the connection isn't switched on, or your rates aren't being sent. Ask your booking engine provider to check.

Can a homestay get Google free booking links?

Yes, if it uses a booking engine or channel manager that connects to Google. A homestay that takes bookings only by phone or WhatsApp can't be listed with prices.
